The Viking Heliskiing area
In terms of heliskiing, there are few places in the world with as many possibilities as the Troll Peninsula in Northern Iceland. The Troll Peninsula area, that is named after the Icelandic Trolls and is the pinisula between Skagafjordur and Eyjafjordur, is vast, largely unexplored and is the most spectacular heliskiing area in Iceland. The skiing slopes are truly unique, with a panorama view of amazing slopes waiting for their first descents.

During winter you can ski until it is dark and watch the majestic northern lights dance in the sky. In the springtime, there is nothing like skiing down slopes in between the towering peaks, ending the ride where the shoreline meets the North Atlantic.
The founders of Viking Heliskiing, Jóhann H. Hafstein and Björgvin Björgvinsson, are both former Olympic ski racers who competed for their country on the Icelandic National Skiing Team. After retiring from the race scene they have transitioned their focus to engage in big mountain skiing and freeriding while obtaining their AMSG ski guide certifications.
The exclusive Viking Heliskiing lodges are located on the Þverá farm in the valley of Ólafsfjörður. The lodges are nestled into the foot of one of our favorite runs called “homerun” and surrounded by towering mountains with the ability to end your ski-day on the “homerun” skiing down to the main lodge and guest cabins.
The main lodge consists of the luxurious dining area, where our chef prepares a top notch three course meal for our guests. You will savor gourmet meals made with fresh and local food such as goose, lamb and arctic char. After an active day in the mountains loosen your muscles, have a glass of wine and enjoy the relaxation of the geothermal water in our indoor hot tub. You may also enjoy sitting down at the bar in the main lodge aside the hot tub and unwind with a pint of the Icelandic Viking beer and watch our chef prepare the dinner.
Our main lodge also is equipped with a pool table and dart board to challenge your friends to a game or two. We have our own indoor garden with a banana tree, grape vines, blueberries, and mint plants. Sit beside the lush green flora in one of our new comfortable patio chairs or couches and read a book or chat. As we open our windows in the spring ski-season it is most beautiful to hear the birds singing as the migrate back to the Ólafsfjorður valley.
Our guests will have their own 100m² Cabins that have two bedrooms, a living room and a private geothermal water jacuzzi. In all lodges there are new quality mattresses made up with comfortable linen, soft towels and warm blankets. With only a few minute walk at the furthest from the main lodge, you will feel peace and privacy in your guest cabin as snow covered mountains reside next to you.
In addition, we have our own ski-shop located next to the lodge where we keep all of our ski gear and surfboards. Inside we have our ski racks full of the latest skis and snowboards provided to us by K2, as well as the top quality backcountry and avalanche safety equipment from BCA. We can mount, tune, and wax anything. We provide, and you ride!
